Other Jewish Authors

Apart from the gospel authors, other Jewish people who were not disciples of Jesus, also wrote about Jesus:

Josephus (37 - 101 AD)

The non-biblical historian who wrote the most detail about Jesus:

Josephus was born four years after the crucifixion.

He was a consultant for the rabbis at an early age.

He was also a Galilean military commander by the age of sixteen.

“Now around this time lived Jesus, a wise man. For he was a worker of amazing deeds and was a teacher of people who gladly accept the truth. He won over both many Jews and many Greeks. Pilate, when he heard him accused by the leading men among us, condemned him to the cross, (but) those who had first loved him did not cease (doing so). To this day the tribe of Christians named after him has not disappeared”

The Jewish Talmud (400 - 700 AD)

The Talmudic writings of the Jewish rabbis

From many Talmudic passages we can conclude the following:

 - Jesus had "magical" powers,

 - He led the Jews away from their traditional beliefs,

 - He had disciples who were martyred for their faith (one of whom was named Matthai),

 - He was executed on the day before the Passover.
